Common questions

What does Sapling do?

It records what you hold on Bursa Malaysia and works out the dividend income that produces — which months it arrives in, how much is expected, and what has actually landed. It is a tracker, not a broker and not a trading app.

Does it connect to my bank or my broker?

No, and it never will. Sapling holds no bank or broker credentials and logs in to nothing. You enter what you hold and Sapling does the arithmetic from publicly declared dividends.

Which markets does it cover?

Bursa Malaysia only, in ringgit. Roughly 1,100 listed counters, refreshed from a third-party market data provider rather than from the exchange itself. Other markets are not supported yet.

Why does a month show N/A instead of RM 0?

Because they mean different things. RM 0 is a claim that nothing arrived; N/A is the truth, which is that nothing has been logged. Sapling will not state a figure about your income that you have not confirmed, so an unconfirmed payment stays N/A until you tell it what landed.

What does the Est. marker mean?

That the figure is Sapling's arithmetic rather than something you confirmed — shares held before the ex-date multiplied by the declared rate, less withholding where it applies. Every projected figure carries it. A figure without it is cash you have recorded.

A payment is past its pay date. Why has it not been counted?

A passed pay date is not a receipt. The expected figure is gross, and Malaysian REIT distributions are commonly paid net of a 10% deduction, so the amount that reaches your account is not the amount Sapling calculated. It shows what is outstanding and waits for you to confirm the real figure.

Why do dividends before my purchase date not appear?

A dividend is earned by holding the shares before its ex-date. If you entered a holding with a purchase date later than a dividend's ex-date, that dividend was not yours. Correcting the date on the trade fixes it — open the holding and tap the trade behind it.

I typed something wrong. Can I fix it?

Yes, all of it. A confirmed amount can be re-confirmed or handed back to the due list, and a trade's units, price, charges, side and date can all be corrected. A trade recorded against the wrong counter is deleted rather than moved, because that is a different trade.

How do I get my data out?

Open History and use the export. It produces a CSV of your confirmed dividends, which is the file to keep for your records or hand to an accountant. It is free and there is no limit on it.

How do I delete my account?

In the app: Account → Delete my account. Everything is removed and there is no copy kept. There is more detail, including what to do if you cannot open the app, on the account deletion page.

Is any of this investment advice?

No. Sapling reports what your own holdings have paid and what has been declared. It does not assess whether any counter is worth owning, and nothing in it is a recommendation to buy or sell.

What does it cost?

Nothing. Recording trades, the calendar, your history, the export, alerts and the tax position are free permanently. If paid features are added later, nothing you have already recorded moves behind them.
